Safety

Safe Transport of Hydrogen.
HYKONIS

Redefining safety standards

For HYKONIS, safety is a top priority, not an added extra. Our Multiple Element Gas Containers (MEGCs) not only comply with all applicable ADR requirements for the transport of dangerous goods – we go above and beyond these requirements.

Maximum Safety
meets certified leak-tightness

Our container unites a design and manufacturing process geared towards maximum safety with extended initial leak tests:

100 % leak test under real conditions

All hydrogen-carrying components of our MEGCs undergo full system testing, using 100% hydrogen as the test gas. This initial test is performed under real operating conditions to verify that the entire system is leak-proof.

Vacuum testing of each and every Type-IV container

At HYKONIS, each and every Type-IV container is tested for leaks in a vacuum chamber — using a patented process which ensures maximum precision.

Stress-free pipeline system

Our pipeline system is designed so that it can easily compensate for any thermal expansion and contraction of the Type-IV containers – without tension or material stress.

Reliably tested – also in actual use

The accessible roof structure with an integrated ladder enables the regular leak tests prescribed for operation to be carried out ergonomically.

This saves time and increases workplace safety.

System design reduces the risk of leaks

We use large individual tanks instead of numerous small pressure vessels.
This reduces the number of potential leakage points – and therefore also the risk.

Fire protection walls for added safety

To ensure safety in the unlikely event of a fire, our system offers two independent fire protection walls:

  • One between the gas cabinet and pressure vessels
  • Another between containers and the truck tractor

This creates separate safety zones to provide protection in an emergency.
